David makes this verse very personal. God is shrunk down from God outside the universe, to my God. He is no less powerful or knowledgeable. He is closer and personable. No longer does He seem out of touch.
When Jesus cried out on the cross, "My God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?" It was at the time when He lost that close relationship with the Father.
Click to Tweet: Seeing Him as My God, needs to be a daily thing not just when we have the mountaintop experience with Him.
The mountaintop experiences are great but they leave very little room for us to extol, lift Him up. We need to carry that mountaintop experience with us when we are in the trenches. It is the closeness of Him being, My God, that helps us through. We can extol Him then for being there to help us.
The word extol means - To praise highly; to lift up; to elevate one's virtues. To elevate by praise; to eulogize; to praise; to magnify an act or a person. One definition that I saw was to enthusiastically praise.
Did you notice in the definition that it means to eulogize? We don't eulogize someone until they are dead usually. Then it is not very enthusiastically but rather somber.
