The trial begins. God is not only the Judge but also the Prosecuter. Wonder if Job took a big gulp when God showed up in the whirlwind? I know I would have been shaking in my boots, so to say if God appeared to me like that. This EF-God didn't destroy anything it just appeared and stayed put the whole time God was speaking to Job. How strange is that? Bet, Job was rethinking what he had said and may even be wishing that he hadn't said it. Let's take a slower look at what God said.
Since Job seemed to know so much about God and how Gow had turned His back on him and all he was going through, it seems very appropriate that God starts making His case as to what part of the ceation of the Earth did Job have any input in. Did Job decide how big to make it or where to put it in orbit? How about the oceans did Job tell them just how far up they could come on the land?
Here as God is showing Job how ignorant he is of the things of God, He is also showing the mystery of Jesus. Jesus is the Foundation and Cornerstone of our faith. It was Him that the angels sang about at His birth, and cheered with joy when He rose from the dead. God continued to share this mystery with King David, "I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalms 118:21-24 NKJV). Jesus, Himself expound upon it, "Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’? “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking of them." (Matthew 21:42-45 NKJV).
I think Peter has best explained the Christian's position to the Cornerstone, "Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy." ( I Peter 2:4-10 NKJV)
The question that God is asking each one of us is, "What have we done with the Cornerstone?"
