Our enemy loves to get our mind off of seeking God and doing His will to focus on ourselves. After all that is what led to his downfall was that he was focused on himself and not on God. That was his game plan with Eve, that God was keeping something from her, something that would make her better. Causing doubt and confusion in Eve's mind and desires her heart to go against what God said.
He tries to do the same with us, enticing us to sin, then playing the mind games with us. One of his favorite is, "You call yourself a Christian and you did that?!?" Making us feel like a failure is one of the best things he can do. We wallow in the condemnation that he piles up on us and it becomes like quicksand keeping us from doing anything.
That is why the helmet of salvation is so important for us to know just exactly what we receive with our salvation. Yes, we are saved from eternal death, separation from God, because we have asked for forgiveness of our sins by the blood of Jesus. It doesn't stop there.
With the helmet of salvation, "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1 NASB). This is the number one point that stops the mind games. We are free from condemnation which our enemy so loves to use against us. All that was done in the past has been forgiven and God remembers them no more. So since He remembers them no more we can block those attacks and not look back either.
Our salvation has made us God's children, "For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him." (Romans 8:14-17 NASB). Once being adopted by God we can't be un adopted.
Our helmet even comes with a set of instructions on how to protect our mind from the mind games. Check out; "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. "(Philippians 4:8 ESV). Keeping our focus is not always easy to do. One thing that helps is having Christian music playing in the background. Another thing is to put Bible verses around. The most important thing is to read the Bible daily so that you know what God says about you, His child.
