Like any parent God wants to hear from us "Thank You" and other praises. What I experienced as a parent made me understand how God feels. We had gone to Six Flags Over Texas as a family when we first moved to Texas. We were standing in line to go on a bobsled type roller coaster. The reaction from my two sons were not what I expected. My youngest son could not wait to go on it, he had seen it in the parking lot and had to go on it. My oldest son begged to not go on it. As he was waiting in line sure of the coming doom, he was going to DIE. Once we got on the ride things changed. My youngest son was sitting in my lap screaming at the top of his lungs, "I want off!" My husband was by himself in the middle. With my oldest son alone in the back (this was his choice) and was having the time of his life.
With the ride in motion I could only put my arms around my youngest son as he held on to the bar in front of him. I told him that I had him, he would make it through OK and that I would not let go of him.
The ride was over, my oldest son ran up to me with a BIG hug and said, “Thank you mommy, for making me go on that. It was great! Let’s go again.” My youngest son, was still shaking and squeezing my hand tight. In a quiet voice he said, “Thank you for letting me know that you had me and were not going to let go.” Both thank you’s touched my heart and meant a lot to me in different ways. I learned that there is more to prayer than bring our list of wants and needs to God. We also need to let Him know how much we love Him for what He has done in our lives.
God was with Hannah holding her hand as she was going through the hard time. Waiting for her to turn to Him. When she turn to Him, He blessed her. In return she thanked and praised Him.
We find Hannah's list of thanksgiving and praise in 1 Samuel 2:1-10.
Let me challenge you with this: take time each day 5 things that you are thankful for. In your prayer time thank God each day for these 5 things.
