You can't have peace without first receiving God's grace first. What is grace? Because this is in the New Testament all the words will be from the Greek language. The word used here for grace is charis (khar-eve). It means; the divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life, benefit, favor, gift, grace, and joy.
Now let's look at peace and what it means. The word for peace is eirene (i-ray-nay), which means; peace, quietness and rest.
It is through grace we receive salvation, justification and forgiveness of our sins.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
It is once that we have that right standing before God are we able to enter into His peace and rest. We are no longer striving to work at making ourselves better so that He will accept us. It is His influence that is at work in our hearts and peace is a reflection of that work.
God poured out His grace on us long before you or I were ever born. Grace comes first. Allowing God to work His wonderful transformation in our lives and filling us with His peace. We should be more than ready to extend that same grace to others that have hurt us. By giving them grace, we can have peace with them.
