Sweet Tea by Wendy Lynn Decker is an eye opening story about a family dealing with a family member with mental problems. The children are left to deal with their mom's problems all on their own after their dad's death. They feel alone, and rejected by or the family members, so they do what they have to do on their own.
I was so drawn into the story that I want to take Olivia, her sister CeeCee, and brother Luke in and let them know everything was going to be OK. I hated to see them make some mistakes but glad they finally got some support.
Sweet Tea deals with the struggle of family members dealing with getting the proper help for the family member, the proper medicine, the fear and stress that the family goes through. Mental illness doesn't just effect the person that has it, it effects everyone in the family in one way or the other.
This was a great story. I think we could all identify in one way or another in dealing with a family member that has some form of mental illness. Great book for teens that have to deal with it. Helps them to see the importance of making wise choices when things are falling apart.
